Invisalign is a teeth alignment system that provides the same outcome as traditional braces, without the need for metal brackets and wires. The system uses clear aligners made of a proprietary material called SmartTrackⓇ.
Each person receives a customized treatment plan, and a series of aligners are made that fit snugly over your teeth. The aligners place just the right amount of gentle pressure on your teeth to shift them into the proper position. You simply change to a new set of aligners every couple of weeks or so, and watch as your smile transforms.
The first step is a consultation with Dr. Jason Mahoney, and a comprehensive dental exam. Dr. Mahoney determines if you have any dental issues that need to be cleared up before beginning Invisalign, and explains the process.
During your first appointment, a scanner creates digital images of your teeth and bone tissue. That provides the information needed to create your individualized treatment plan. You can even see how your teeth will shift as treatment progresses, and what your smile will look like once treatment is complete.
The digital images are sent to the lab where your aligners are crafted. Once they arrive, you come back to the office to pick them up.
You will wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day, taking them out only for dental hygiene and during meals. You change to the next set of aligners according to a schedule laid out by Dr. Mahoney.
During treatment, you’ll also come in for periodic check-up appointments to make sure that your teeth are shifting properly, and to address any concerns that you or your dentist have about the process.
Invisalign can address the following conditions:
Invisalign is a great option for most people, but there are certain cases where a different approach may be required. If you have teeth that are severely misshapen, twisted, or extremely decayed, Invisalign may not be a good fit for you. It is also important to note that Invisalign is not recommended for children or young teenagers, as their teeth have not yet fully developed.
